"Promoting Citizen Science Education in the Ozark Region"
We are a society dedicated to exploring the latest advancements in citizen science and aerospace education. Our mission is to share our knowledge and passion for astronomy with the greater Ozark region inclusive of the states that occupy what is commonly referred to as the Ozarks region.
We not only want to educate our members to look at the stars, we also want to train them to reach for the stars! We support aerospace education leading to careers in the aerospace industry as a whole, as opposed to just a basic astronomy education alone. Astronomers are scientist and needed in other aerospace positions besides looking through telescopes only their whole career. That is not a bad thing necessarily, but there are other positions on launch teams as scientist, and using subjects like orbital mechanics to get the spacecraft to its mission location and return. We train for those other positions too so that our members have choices in their own career objectives!
Please support our outreach efforts by joining us as members or supporters who want to learn about astronomy or volunteer their services, and "Dark Sky" advocates who want to preserve our "Ozark Natural Skies" from light polution. You can also help by giving a donation that supports our educational and outreach mission in the Ozark region.

We are managed by a society concept, where we have a controlling "Board of Directors and Advisors" that administer the non-profit charitable society and its business relationships for the purpose of expanding aerospace education and astronomy outreach throughout the Ozark regions of Arkansas and Missouri. We reserve the titles of President, Secretary and Treasurer for the use of "ASO Chapter" bodies only, that form the basis of the societies basic organizational structure. The "Home Chapter" itself is a separate entity, but it is also a combined entity in that it operates as a "Board", and also operates as the "Home Chapter of ASO" in its own right, and operates in its own local region of the Ozarks. ASO also assigns regional and local Outreach Coordinators, who are chosen from the membership at large, to help administer chapters in their own designated regions while providing support for local chapter events. We encourage small organizations like schools, churches, libraries, social clubs, and other neighborhood groups including families to form their very own ASO astronomy chapters. We are here to help and support them, while they support ASO through their own volunteer outreach efforts. One sky, one people! One chapter, one group! One member, one telescope! We invite you to join us and apply to become a local chapter today!
We hold our monthly administrative board meetings both vitually and in person at Eureka Springs Arkansas USA. We hold our annual meeting events at different locations throughout the Ozark regions of Arkansas and Missouri. Last years meeting was held in Eureka Springs Arkansas on May 7, 2024. Our next annual meeting will also be held in Eureka Springs Arkansas around the same time in either April or May of 2025. We have located a remote RV Park with a dark sky location and with an open field that could be used for a "Star Party" with an event pavillian and bar! A final event date and location will be announced around the end of the year after all of the holiday seasons are over, and only after the final event arrangements are finished and we have secured the sight for the event.
Your support and donations will enable us to meet our outreach goals and mission to take astronomy and space STEAM education throughout the Ozark regions of Arkansas and Missouri, and to help us preserve our "Ozark Natural Skies".
We support several events each year and during major astronomical events and holiday occasions, as a way to celebrate life and ponder the vastness of the universe with our telescopes. We will also attend other local and national events, fairs and craft shows, and we will post them on the "events page". Click on the picture, or go to our Astronomical Events page.
We know that our members have unique needs. Send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
